Congratulations to Jo Baker-Henry who was selected as H2U's Senior of the Year. She has donated many hours to numerous projects and I have enjoyed her brief interviews with members that appear in our monthly newsletter.
Last time I told you about all the good food that is shared at the annual picnic. The final report on how much shampoo, lotion. soaps, powders, toothpaste and deodorants were donated to the Veteran's hospital puts the worth at about $400.00. This was donated by the some .150 people who were present at the picnic. Everyone I spoke to mentioned how much they enjoyed the visit by the new CEO of Emory Eastside Hospital Mrs. Kim Ryan. This annual picnic was a real success.
The Hi-Lo Chorus has performed for the Pacesetters Club and the Silver Leaf Nursing Home and they are scheduled for another appearance at Camp Big Heart. These people have so much fun themselves as they bring real enjoyment to those they entertain.
On June 20th. thirty-one people met at the American Tavern with the Lunch Bunch. This is a group that dines at different restaurants around our area. Lunch is at your own expense. There is fun. fellowship, and door prizes. We also have a Friends Night Out scheduled for July 17 at the Texas Road House for people who work during the day and can not attend a luncheon get-together. Of course, if you are free at both times, you can come to both the Lunch Bunch and the Friends Night Out occasions. Just call the H2U office to make reservations.
A big thank you to all the people who are donating yarn to our members who are knitting baby caps for newborns and lap robes for nursing homes. We can still use more so if you have scraps left over from your projects bring them on down to either office of T2U.
On Tuesday, July 15, Seniors-on-the-go will be traveling to Peach County, Georgia picking up peaches and pecans by the pound or by the case. They will be dining at Y oders which features a Mennonite style buffet lunch. Of course we will be checking out their amazing bakery too. If you haven't got your reservation, you should do that quickly.
Condolences go to the families of Rock Joffre and Mary Pryzwara. They were both active members for a long time and they "ill be missed. Happy Birthday wishes go to Ronald Clark, Nelson Hawk, Nola Jackson, Janet Maroney, and Sally O'Harrow.
Our annual Alzheimer's Garage Sale will be held September 5th and 6th. So as you are cleaning out closets and cabinets set aside some treasures for our sale. You can begin to bring them to the Heritage Center on August 30 through September 4th. That will give us time to arrange them for the sale. We will not accept used clothing. We appreciate your help in making our sale a success and you will also be helping Alzheimer victims.
