Buford/North Gwinnett Rotary news

Rotary Club of Buford/North Gwinnett Works to Support County Literacy with their “Littlest Reader” Program

Participants in “Littlest Reader” Program
BUFORD – Basic Rotary principles dictate a strong connection with community both locally and globally. With this principle in mind, the Rotary Club of Buford/North Gwinnett is proud to continue support of the Gwinnett County Public Library’s Littlest Reader Program. The club has been supporting this program both financially, through matching Rotary International Foundation Grants, as well as by preparing packets to be provided to newborns in the county. “This program is designed to foster a love of reading, that we hope will begin at birth and continue throughout a lifetime”, said Nancy Stanbery-Kellam, Executive Director of the Gwinnett County Public Library and proud club member.
The club received the matching funds competitive grant from Rotary International Foundation. Yesterday, the club met at the Suwanee Branch Library to help stuff packets, enjoy BBQ and have a good time. Club members brought their families so a new generation of Rotarians could see how important the club’s work with the community is. Service Chair, Ann Ragle said, “I have been busy coordinating service projects for the coming year and am excited about the opportunities a new year brings”.
This is just one of the many programs Buford/North Gwinnett has planned for this year. The club is a huge supporter of the CART (Coins for Alzheimer Research Trust) fund which helps Alzheimer’s research, local scholarships to North Gwinnett High School and Buford High School as well as many other international student exchange programs. Club President, Valerie Dirksen said, “the Rotary International motto this year is – Make Dreams Real. Our club has many plans in the works to do that locally as well as internationally”.
Every Buford/North Gwinnett club meeting is closed with the four way test. Which is, of the things we think, say or do….first, is it the truth? Second, is if fair to all concerned? Third, will it build good will and better friendships, and fourth is it beneficial to all concerned. One of the original club founders, Carolyn Hill said, “these are good principles to live by both professionally and personally”.
The club meets every Wednesday at noon for lunch. For more information about membership, please contact Membership Chair, Tim Krajec at (678) 957-5501 or Club President Valerie Dirksen directly at (678) 804-2511. We are always looking for new members to help strengthen our club. Check us out on the web at www.northgwinnettrotary.org. Call us today; you will be glad you did!
