Once a year many Gwinnett County citizens help out in the annual Great Days of Service. The wonderful day of volunteering for 2008 was no exception. The Gwinnett Sunrise Rotary Club (formerly Snellville Rotary) teamed up with many school clusters in the South Gwinnett area to help the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry.
The Southeast Gwinnett Co-op is part of the Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry and is working to make a difference for families in the Southeastern part of Gwinnett County. The Co-op makes every attempt to help with food, bills, prescription drugs, gas, oil etc. They serve residents from Snellville, Grayson and the Gwinnett County area of Loganville.
Fully funded by donations and volunteers, the Co-op was given food and hygiene products from many area schools during the Great Days of Service. Snellville Middle, South Gwinnett High, Shiloh High, Annistown Elementary, Norton Elementary, Centerville Elementary and Magill Elementary schools, gathered products during the month of September’ Gwinnett Sunrise Rotary collected and transported them to the Co-op. From there, Rotarians and other volunteers helped sort items, stock shelves, and dispersed items to recipients.
The Co-op is fully dependent on donations and seeks help for the coming months and holiday season. Items that are needed include all kinds of food items from canned goods and cereals to hygiene items and financial donations.
To donate, contact Laura Drake at 770-985-5229. Donations are received Tuesday and Thursday from 10-12 pm. The Co-op is open for residents Monday and Friday 10-2 pm and Wednesday 3-7 pm.
During the month of September the Co-op took in 299 Clients. One in four new families are new to the Co-op. The Co-op gave out over 15,000 canned goods for the public and only took in 13,000 cans from donations. With these numbers it is very important that they receive donations this holiday season to keep the shelves stocked for the people that need them the most.
Please help this season by donating your extra canned goods or hygiene products.
Gwinnett Sunrise Rotary meets every Tuesday morning at Summit Chase Country Club at 7:30 am.
