Finding answers is internal medicine physician’s specialty

“I chose internal medicine as my specialty because I like solving problems and I like seeing patients with a wide range of medical needs,” says Faith Gray, M.D., an internal medicine specialist at DeKalb Medical Physicians Group Lilburn Internal Medicine.

An internal medicine specialist treats adults over the age of 18 and serves as a person’s primary care provider. “I treat patients with high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, heart disease, high cholesterol and asthma,” says Gray. “We also provide annual physicals and preventive healthcare.” While she provides care to men and women, Gray has a special interest in women’s health.

“Women are typically so busy caring for others that they tend to put their health on the back burner,” she says. “I try to remind women to pay attention to their health, get annual physicals and take care of themselves so they can continue caring for others.”

Another important medical condition for men and women is diabetes, points out Gray. “There is a greater awareness of pre-diabetes, a condition that precedes diabetes.” Proper screening with simple blood tests enables patients who have pre-diabetes to take steps to improve nutrition, lose weight and manage their glucose levels before they need medication, she explains.
