On April 11, 2018, I had the honor of participating on Georgia Gwinnett College's School of Health Sciences panel discussion titled, "Healthcare in the 80's and Beyond," at the Button Gwinnett Day Celebration. Fellow panelists included Dr. Lloyd Hofer, Medical Director of Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale Public Health, Dr. Greg Lang, Executive Director, Good Samaritan Clinic, and Pamela Garland, Chief Nursing Officer, Gwinnett Medical Center.

A popular falsehood is that yoga is for young slim people who can contort their bodies naturally like a pretzel. This simply not the case. Yoga is beneficial for many of all ages by reducing stress and anxiety, improving flexibility and overall fitness performance. Yoga can also be beneficial for your heart and overall health, assist with weight loss and help with chronic conditions such as arthritis and osteoporosis. Yoga also keeps us in tune with ourselves and a feeling of connection with our own bodies.

Arguably one of the most American traditions is being able to hop in the car and drive wherever your heart desires. Road trips are inherent to our culture and are often considered a rite of passage. Even as we get older, that urge to hit the open road doesn’t really diminish. Luckily, many older individuals are perfectly capable of driving safely, even into their 70s and 80s. However, age does have an effect on our ability to be completely safe behind the wheel.

New Alzheimer’s Association Report Reveals Sharp Increases in Alzheimer’s Prevalence, Deaths and Costs of Care | Alzheimer’s deaths in Georgia increased by 201 percent from 2000 - 2015. 

Atlanta– For the second consecutive year, total payments to care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias will surpass a quarter of a trillion dollars ($277 billion), which includes an increase of nearly $20 billion from last year, according to data reported in the Alzheimer’s Association 2018 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report released today.
