A New Year, A New You... in New Lawrenceville!
By Rodney Camren
Welcome to 2014, you have arrived. Reset, Relax & Release are my favorite 3R’s for any stressful situation or just to get a grip on the day. So here we are in the first of the New Year 2014 and I hope you will “Reset” your goals or your mindset, “Relax” the tension in your body, mind and spirit so you can focus on the positive energy you will “Release” into your life, work & the Universe.
“RESET” according to Merriam Webster is “: to move (something) back to an original place or position”. I suppose it really depends on the circumstances and situation as to whether you would like for something to be reset. I know if I had a broken bone, that I would want to be reset and put back in its original place. Sometimes relationships can feel like they need to be reset back to the way they were when you first meet someone. Alarm clocks & time pieces are constantly being reset but does life really get to be reset? Do you remember as a kid you would not like the way you did or said something and what would we all get? We would get a “do over”. The “do over” was great because no matter what the error was it was wiped clean and didn’t count. And the great thing was everyone was ok with the “do over” rule. But can you really go back to the original place or position and start again? Can you really have a “do over” a “reset” of the situation at hand? Personally, I love the idea; however I am not sure it is as practical as we may want it to be for us in real life. But then again, doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is defined as insanity. So as not to be insane at some point you have to reset or maybe reevaluate and restructure the situation. I like that, resetting is actually (in my mind) halting the moment, reevaluating the situation and the restructuring the outcome for better & more improved results.
“RELEASE” this is one of my favorites definitions from Merriam Webster to allow (a person or animal) to leave a jail, cage, prison, etc. : to set (someone or something) free : to stop holding (someone or something) : to allow (a substance) to enter the air, water, soil, etc. This definition has me to where I have this vision of me “jailing” “caging” and “imprisoning” that double stacked bacon cheeseburger, fries and extra-large chocolate shake I had for lunch this week and it makes me laugh. However, if you think about it for moment it is what we do with a lot of things. Take a thought or behavior you constantly have that you want to change, you are “jailing” “caging” and “imprisoning” the situation but we can let it go free! There is a reason why we do the things we do or the things we don’t do. There is a deeper source to why we eat the wrong foods, why we take out our frustrations on others, why we “cage” things we should set free. When we don’t release these problems we carry around we create bad habits or tension in our life and the lives of others. It is only when we release that we exhale and set free the burdens that plague us mentally, physically and spiritually. As you take in your breathing think of breathing in love and all that is good. Then when love has gone through you and you are about to exhale, do so with gratitude; in with love and out with gratitude. Releasing whatever “it” is from jail or prison and setting it free is the final step and doing it with love and gratitude. Releasing also involves; wait for it……”forgiving”. Yes, that’s right. If you are truly setting something free, letting it go and exhaling then you are saying you forgive. So many times people forget that point and guess what it returns.
“Affirmations” I believe not only having forgiveness & gratitude when I exhale the problems of life but I have always found that starting my day off with positive affirmations are a great way to help me change my mindset and accomplish and be better than the day before, week before or even year before. A Positive Mind Website promotes “developing a positive mindset is one of the most powerful life strategies there is. Using powerful positive thinking techniques, visualizations and positive affirmations, it is possible to achieve whatever you want. Professionals and business people can use these techniques to develop personal power or gain a competitive edge. At a personal level it will transform your life, your health and renew the joy and passion for life.” I couldn’t agree more with this statement. In fact many coaches in all areas of life agree as well. Take for instance Dianna Kokoszka who has authored 21 books and has been honored four times as the Business Woman of the Year by Denver Business Magazine and Business Council, Entrepreneur of the Year by Champions of Free Enterprise, and Best of the Best in Real Estate by Real Trends in Dallas, Texas not only does positive affirmations every day for herself but has classes on them as well. William H Marshall of Power Affirmations states there are 7 reasons why it is useful to listen to recorded affirmations. Bill also states that his 488 positive affirmations were inspired by ideas from books and audios such as Think and Grow Rich, The Science of Getting Rich, How to Win Friends and Influence People, Awaken the Giant Within, Personal Power II, and Time of Your Life. The seven reasons why it is useful to listen to recorded affirmations are as follows: “1. They will help you stay positive in a world where most people are negative. 2. Listening to recordings makes it easier to condition your subconscious mind through the principle of repetition. 3. You can learn fundamental success principles. The affirmations are written to be educational as well as inspirational. 4. You can get started immediately. These recordings have already been made so you can save hundreds of hours. 5. The affirmations will help you generate new ideas for achieving your goals. 6. You can listen to affirmations while you are asleep. 7. The affirmations help you cultivate the emotions of hope and faith. They stimulate your desire to achieve which moves you to ACTION. Only ACTION creates results.”
In conclusion, we all have something we want to change, make better or completely get rid of in our lives. As hard as society promotes little pills, quick fixes, all you need is a surgery thinking those are the answers today’s problems, well my friends it isn’t. In my life I have learned that you must get to the root of problem or concern you have and determine why you want to change it. Example: I am fat because I don’t eat right. I don’t eat right because I am unhappy. I am unhappy because I hate my job. I hate my job because I don’t feel appreciated by my boss. I don’t feel appreciate because I work all these hours and no one notices my hard work. Solution: Get honest with you and your boss to express to her that “I need you to tell me, show me, pay me what I feel I am worth and acknowledge you need me to be here and part of this process.” That is just one example but get to the root of the real problem get a healthier mindset, an honest mindset not only with others but with you as well. Keep asking the tough questions as to why you have a behavior you want to change. I want to personally wish you all the best and a Happy New Year & welcome to 2014 where you will “Reset, Relax & Release” yourself to a New You in New Lawrenceville.
