Friday night lights moved to Saturday when Archer High School travelled to Dacula High School on Halloween night. The Falcon and the Tiger were congenial to one another and yet both emitted a certain self-importance and confidence that could not be denied. As always, they were surrounded by a bevy of admiring fans.
Grayson Homecoming King Christian Torres-Fields is shown with the beautiful Queen Savannah Barr. It is wonderful to crown a King that we personally know in his role as area lifeguard, member of Gwinnett Senior Leadership Team and friend of Grayson “A Capella Phenom “Hollis Cuffie. Christian beside charm and hard work is also someone who can pull off a bowtie under almost any circumstance.
The Brookwood Homecoming King and Queen were William Ridley and Alon McKleevan. Both athletes of note, Alon had to fabricate her aloof expression although being part of the Brookwood Volleyball Regional Championship team (6th year running under Coach Brian Welsch) can go to someone’s head. William Ridley is a multi sport athlete and know for his skills in Cross Country.

Two of my favorite dignitaries, Brent Tisdale and AJ Soto, are now part of the administrative team at Discovery High School under Principal John Campbell. The two men have been vital additions to many area high schools such as when Brent was the BMOC at Central High School in his own teen years “back in the day”. As educators they have graced, Grayson High , Mountain View and now Discovery High School. Sharing their dedication to their families and a commitment to education, I wonder if their camaraderie is another part of their charm.
Kay Cash , front office Administrator at Dacula High School, has been part of the DHS family since she can remember. She graduated from high school there and is part of 4 generations of Dacula. Her daughter Carrie Stiers, formerly a teacher at Harbins Elementary School, and Carrie’s husband Beau just welcomed Falcon Baby Quinn Stiers who join older brother Cohen. Kay was asked spot on what she saw as the “Golden Age of Dacula:” but demurred saying, “There have been so many accomplishments, I can’t say”.
Ben Tingle has begun his 2nd year as Director of the Lanier High School Band which has grown and thrived each year since the band formed in 2010 under the leadership of Director Heath Lawless, another talented leader. Each band section has its own personality and as a non musical person, I have come to realize that “Low Brass is High Class”.
