Easy troubleshooting tips for your furnace
As the temperature drops this winter and your HVAC system kicks into full gear, your furnace may suddenly start giving problems. If you are having trouble with your heating system, please follow these easy troubleshooting tips to see if you can resolve some of the most common issues yourself to avoid costly repairs.
Make sure your Thermostat is on and all the settings are correct.
Check your thermostat to make sure that all of the settings are correct. Make sure it is on “Heat” and not “Cool.” Check that the thermostat is on, and the program is displaying the right day and time, as well as the appropriate AM and PM settings. Check your batteries. These are easy tips that most homeowners overlook.
Make sure your pilot light is on.
Pilot lights do go out occasionally. Find your equipment manual and follow the instructions to relight your pilot. The instructions should also be printed on your equipment, or on the back of the furnace door. If your pilot lights keeps going out, or it is too difficult for you to relight the pilot yourself, please give your HVAC service technician a call.
Make sure your circuit breaker has not tripped
Check your circuit breaker and if it has tripped, then reset the breaker. If the problem persists, please call your HVAC technician to schedule a service call.
There are many dust particles and impurities in the air, which may cause air filters to get clogged and cause problems with your HVAC system. Air filters should be changed twice per year at minimum, and if this is not done, it can cause reduced air flow. Sometimes changing the filters can resolve this issue.
