WASHINGTON – Chief Musician Cynthia Wolverton is coming home to Atlanta, Georgia, on tour with the United States Navy Band. The band will make an appearance at Morehouse College, just a short distance away from Wolverton's hometown of Norcross, Georgia.
Georgia is one of seven states to host performances by the United States Navy Band during its 2020 tour -- one of the Navy's signature outreach programs.
The United States Navy Band, featuring the Concert Band, Sea Chanters chorus and Cruisers popular music group, is scheduled to perform March 14, 2020, at 3 p.m. at Morehouse College, MLK International Chapel. Prior to joining the Navy, Wolverton earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Carolina, a Master of Music from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of North Texas. While at UNT, Wolverton was named the 1999 College of Music Outstanding Student in Woodwinds and the the 2000 Outstanding Graduate in Instrumental Studies.
One of the U.S. Navy Band's primary responsibilities involves touring the country. All of the band's primary performing ensembles embark each year on concert tours throughout specified regions of the country, allowing the band to reach audiences in areas of the country that do not have opportunities to see the Navy's premier musical ensembles on a regular basis. The concerts are family-friendly events, entertaining to veterans, families, individuals and those interested in joining the Navy.
All Navy Band performances are free and open to the public.
