Vietnamese artist from Lilburn accepted into prestigious American Craft Council Atlanta Show

Lilburn (March 11, 2014) – When the American Craft Council (ACC) returns to Atlanta for its 25th Silver Anniversary Show at the Cobb Galleria Centre, Lilburn master glass artist Hung Nguyen will be there for the first time with 240 other superior craft artisans.
As the largest juried show in the Southeast, the ACC Show is known as the nation’s premier marketplace for handcrafted basketry, ceramics, fashion wearables, furniture, glass, jewelry, home decor and more made by the country’s top artisans.
Priorto being selected as one of the ACC’s master artisans, Nguyen caught the eye of some of the world’s most famous people withhis abstract and creative sculptures. President George W. Bush, former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev, TV personality Larry King and entertainer Wayne Newton top his list of collectors.
Nguyen came to the United States from Vietnam in 1981 as a refugee. Four years later, he apprenticed his way to be a glass sculpture artist, and worked alongside one of the best internationally acclaimed glass masters, Hans Godo Frabel. “I loved the art of glass making the very first moment I saw it,” said Nguyen. “I saw clearly that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.” His passion turned to reality as he earned his way to a glass art master, and he has been recognized with numerous awards, in publications and exhibitions for his superior sculptures, abstracts and decorative works. He also creates and designs original custom orders out of MC Glass Art Inc, his studio on 311 Rockbridge Road.
Hung’s passion for the simple elegance and beauty of Georgia’s state flowers has been lauded by the state, and several of his sculptures appear in The University of Georgia State Botanical Garden, the Atlanta Botanical Garden and the McKee Botanical Garden in Florida.
The ACC Show in Atlanta draws thousands of fine craft collectors around the Southeast who enjoy learning the makers’ creative processes, developing relationships with the artists and hearing the stories behind each handcrafted piece. Meet Nguyen and his distinguished peers at the ACC Show Friday, March 14 from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 15 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; and Sunday, March 16 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Cobb Galleria Centre.
