AKAs and Kappas Partner to Promote Literacy and Educate Community with Black History Month Reading Relay at Gwinnett Public Libraries

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA (January 28, 2014) - The Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in partnership with the Lawrenceville-Duluth Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated are working to promote literacy and educate youth with a Diamonds and Pearls Black History Month Reading Relay each Saturday in February from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at select Gwinnett County library branches.

Lawrenceville, GA. (January 27, 2014) One of Gwinnett County¹s decorated art teachers is once again being recognized for his service to his students and the field of fine arts. The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) named Osborne Middle¹s Dallas Gillespie as National Junior Art Honor Society Sponsor of the Year.

Path2College 529 plan gives families 25,000 reasons to think about saving for college in 2014

ATLANTA – With the New Year comes new opportunities, and one Georgia program is launching a sweepstakes that is intended to provide a child with the opportunity to achieve his or her dreams by helping pay for a college education. Today, the Path2College 529 Plan, the state of Georgia’s 529 college savings plan, kicked off its $25,000 Reasons to Save Sweepstakes, which will award one Georgia child with $15,000 for his or her college education and the winner’s school will also receive $10,000.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Jan. 23, 2014) – Commissioners on Tuesday approved using $21,693 in 2009 SPLOST funds to install streetlights in the Stratford Square subdivision near Lilburn. Each property owner will pay a share of the total estimated $2,438 in annual operating costs on their property tax bill.

Youth Sports EXPO coming to Rhodes Jordan Park

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Jan. 22, 2014) – Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation (GCPR) in collaboration with Children’s Health Care of Atlanta is holding the largest sports expo of its kind in the state of Georgia. The 2014 Youth Sports Expo will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Rhodes Jordan Park.
