LAWRENCEVILLE – The LONA Gallery is proud to host the 2015 Winter Exhibition of the Portrait Society of Atlanta. Juror for the exhibition is Michael Shane Neal, who is among the most sought after commissioned portrait artists in America today. The exhibition will run from December 31st through January 29, 2015.
PSA Exhibitions offer artists an opportunity to have their work judged by a nationally recognized portrait artist. Selected artists compete for awards and broaden public awareness by displaying their work in Atlanta area art venues.
The Portrait Society of Atlanta was formed in 1979 as the Portrait Club of Atlanta, organized by Anna M. Norris an Atlanta artist and wife of prominent architect Henry D. Norris. The most important factor in forming the organization was to set up a non-competitive atmosphere to provide members with mutual benefits and shared expertise thereby improving the quality of portraiture being offered in Atlanta; while holding exhibitions for the public to enjoy and using outside jurors to assure a certain level of quality was maintained.
Celebrating 35 years in 2014, the Portrait Society of Atlanta is a non-profit (501c3) organization of portrait artists whose main purpose is to educate the public to a greater awareness of the portrait as a valid and valuable art form, while enriching its members by offering a variety of educational opportunities.
Most members are located in Georgia, but the PSA’s membership extends to 6 other states and a few international members as well. The Portrait Society of Atlanta offers five program-oriented meetings per year that include demonstrations by renowned portrait artists, lectures and presentations on a variety of topics pertinent to portraiture and sponsors two juried exhibitions each year as well as occasional special exhibitions and public portrait demonstrations. The quarterly newsletter contains articles, interviews, and information on all manner of subjects of interest to portrait artists.
Owners of The LONA Gallery, Carolyn Wright and Sylvia Culberson report “we continually strive to bring the best in local art to the city of Lawrenceville and Gwinnett County. We are very proud to host the Portrait Society of Atlanta and display the outstanding quality of art and the accomplished artists featured in the 2015 Winter Exhibition show.” “We invite the community to come out and enjoy this remarkable art exhibition.”
