Michelle Carmona’s logo features children holding hands and balloons. For her efforts she received a plaque and a gift card. Mary Ann Phan and Karsten Narbiker were also recognized for their designs, evaluated by the Snellville Days Committee.
“The Snellville Days Festival is in its 42nd year and the desire as it has grown was to always try to keep the community feel to it,” said Parks and Recreation Department Director Lisa Platt. “The original reason for the festival was a one-day fundraiser event to help build Briscoe Park. Forty-two years later it has really turned into the festival for our area. While we welcome all the growth and changes to the festival and strive to make it better each year ... we never want to lose the community feel and involvement.
“That is how the idea to include our local youth in the design for the T-shirts came about. We thought it would be a great way to get the kids involved and excited about being a part of this great event held at Briscoe Park. We hope this is the start of a great tradition in which we allow the local youth to participate in a yearly contest to create a new design every year to go on the festival T-shirts. We have some great talent in our area and we want to help foster those abilities and create some excitement for the festival.”
Brookwood High School Principal William Bo Ford Jr. praised the work of Loria Crews’ graphic design class in which Carmona created the design.
“I love partnering with the city of Snellville in efforts like the Snellville T-shirt contest,” he said.
City officials said they are pleased to work with local schools as well.
“We are so excited that Brookwood High School students were involved in our Snellville Days T-shirt design contest this year,” said event coordinator Kathi Gargulio. “We truly appreciate these students taking time to help us come up with a fun T-shirt design. Snellville has so many talented young people and this is such a great way for them to serve their community as well as for us to help promote their artwork.”
