A tradition of winning

A tradition of winning
By Beth Volpert Johansen

Winning is not something that the Grayson Golden Rams go for every Saturday…it’s tradition!  They are the Competition Cheerleaders that represent Grayson High School.  Both JV and Varsity practice everyday after school in the GHS strength center.  On Saturdays, they travel to other high schools and compete in cheerleading competitions.  This season they brought home a total of 8 trophies.  The Golden Rams have always been successful in GHSA AAAAAA.

Happy 102nd Birthday Ivy Morgan

On December 12, Ivy Morgan, Grayson area resident, celebrates her 102nd birthday with friends and family at a big dinner party, complete with birthday cake and music, hosted by Loganville Legacy Lions Club.  Ivy grew up in London with father Charles, a taxi driver, mother Ada, a waitress, and younger brother Leslie.

Oh December with your holiday parties, shopping, gift giving and places to be for this month in Gwinnett County!  This is one of the busiest times and probably one of the most fun times of the year.  Of course by now you should have gotten that live Christmas tree and if you haven’t I am sure Randy’s Nursery on highway 29 still has a few left for you.  I am told David at Randy’s Nursery has “the sturdy kind that doesn’t mind the snow.”

Trader J’s Auction: A place full of Christmas Spirit

Trader J’s Auction is more than just an auction house, it’s a family of caring and generous people who support local charities throughout the year and especially at Christmas time.  This year the auction will be open again to homeless and needy families from Lawrenceville and Jenkins Elementary schools and the Villa Lodge in Lawrenceville for Christmas shopping.

Aside from the roasted turkeys and broccoli casseroles, the circled gift ideas in the advertisement magazines, the heavy coats and gloves instead of the jackets, and the tacky sweater parties for the folks from the office, the end of the year holds host to enumerable opportunities to serve others.  Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, many times the focus is on decorating the mantle and vacuuming before guests arrive or scouring the mall for the perfect present for that one family member for whom you have no gift ideas.
