Gwinnett’s Lanier High School honored for going “green”

Lanier High School has been named a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School. Lanier High is one of 46 schools from around the nation awarded the Green Ribbon designation, which recognizes schools and districts that exercise a comprehensive approach to creating “green” environments by reducing environmental impact, promoting health, and ensuring a high-quality environmental and outdoor education for students.

United Community Bank Launches United Heroes Mortgage Program

Blairsville — United Community Bank has launched a special mortgage savings program designed to recognize the everyday heroes in our communities. The program, called United Heroes, offers reduced fees and other savings for home mortgages. Participants can save up to $1,300 as part of the program.

Gwinnett County pools open Memorial Day weekend

Lawrenceville – Dig out your swimsuit and grab a towel because all Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation aquatic facilities open for summer starting May 26 for Memorial Day weekend.

Most of the aquatic centers and leisure play pools offer fun features such as aquatic playgrounds, giant water slides, beach entry into the pool, picnic areas and more.

Gwinnett County reaches deal to acquire 104 acres at OFS Tract on I-85

Lawrenceville – At its Tuesday meeting, the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution in support of the purchase of approximately 104 acres at the OFS Fiber Optics site along I-85 by the Urban Redevelopment Agency of Gwinnett County (URA). The URA approved the purchase following the meeting.
