Snellville to host Veterans Day event

SNELLVILLE – The city will honor veterans at the annual Veterans Day event Wednesday.

The ceremony is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. on the Towne Green, just yards away from the Veterans Memorial.

There will be a wreath placing at the Memorial, speeches from dignitaries and patriotic music.

“It seems appropriate that the first event I will be mayor at will be one to honor our veterans,” said Mayor-elect Tom Witts, who will be sworn in as mayor Monday night.

Witts, a U.S. Navy veteran, orchestrated the effort to have the Memorial erected to honor area veterans.

To conclude the event, there will be a “Light Up the Sky” event during which attendees can honor their loved ones who served in the military. Those wishing to take part in the event can buy cards which will display the name of a beloved veteran at Wild Wing Café on Highway 124 or at the event. Cards are $5.
