Thomason – Abernathy

Alysha Leigh Thomason and Joshua Keith Abernathy were married January 11, 2014 at The Cotton Warehouse in Monroe.

Rev. Trent Alexander, College and Career Minister at Sunrise Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, officiated the ceremony. 

Traci Herring, friend of the bride, directed the wedding, and Adrianna Abernathy, cousin of the groom, greeted guests as they signed the bride’s book.

The bride is the daughter of Gary and Anita Thomason of Snellville. She is the granddaughter of Gary and JoAnn Thomason of Stone Mountain and the late Grady and Eddie McCannon of Lawrenceville. Alysha is a 2009 graduate of Brookwood High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training in 2013 from the University of North Georgia. She is employed by Forsyth County Wellness Center as an athletic trainer.

The groom is the son of Stanley and Penny Abernathy of Dahlonega. He is the grandson of Eva Nell Pruitt and the late Edward Pruitt of Suches and Dorothy Fay Abernathy and the late Henry Abernathy of Dahlonega. Josh is a 2002 graduate of Lumpkin County High School. He is employed by Windstream Communications as a technician.

Kalli Fouts of McDonough served as the bride’s matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Jessie Atkinson of Royston, Katy Dennis of Durham, North Carolina, Brittney Goswick of Dawsonville, Stephanie Rhodes of Kennesaw, and Robin Thomason, sister-in-law of the bride, of Lawrenceville.  

Justin Brown of Dahlonega served as the groom’s best man. Groomsmen were Shane Brown of Dahlonega, Joe Spooner of Dahlonega, Bryan Thomason, brother of the bride, of Lawrenceville, and Josh Walden of Dahlonega. Logan Abernathy, son of the groom, was the ring bearer.

A single candle was lit to honor the memory of the bride’s grandparents and the groom’s grandfathers by Bryan Thomason, brother of the bride. Woodrow and Lillian McCrea, great aunt and uncle of the bride of Alma, served as honorary grandparents. Alysha and Josh lit the unity candle while Kenny Chesney’s song, Me and You, was playing.

The reception with dinner and dancing, hosted by the bride’s parents, was held at The Cotton Warehouse following the ceremony.

The bride and groom’s first dance was to I Cross My Heart by George Strait, and the bride and her father danced to I Loved Her First by Heartland.

During their engagement, family and friends of the bride and groom honored them with parties. The bride, her mother, and bridesmaids celebrated at a dinner at Provino’s in Cumming. The rehearsal dinner was at Bay Creek Community House in Loganville.

After a honeymoon at the Majestic Colonial Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the couple resides in Dahlonega, Georgia.
