This annual event, to be opened with a flag ceremony, offers an opportunity to meet and ask questions of local police officers, learn about how the department and other law enforcement agencies work and to learn how to stay safe.
Police vehicles with anticrime accessories, tactical equipment and weapons and the Snellville Police Special Response Team will be on hand. The Air-Evac Lifeteam helicopter, Gwinnett County Fire Department equipment and personnel, Gwinnett Animal Control, Gwinnett County Bomb Squad van, the University of Georgia’s rollover demonstration vehicle, emergency medical service technicians and first responders are all scheduled to attend.
Numerous exhibitors will be providing information on personal, gun and road safety and training for all ages and financial, home and pet security. Members of the Snellville Citizens Police Academy will be available with information on the academy. Information on the free emergency notification system of Code RED will also be available.
Fingerprinting of children, Eddie Eagle, a treasure hunt and a drawing for free self-defense lessons will keep kids engaged and entertained.
The Snellville Police K-9 officers will give several demonstrations throughout the evening along with personal self-defense and “How to manage a traffic stop” demonstrations.
“The men and women of the Snellville Police Department and Snellville Citizens Police Academy Alumni are excited about our Public Safety night on Sept. 30,” said SPD Chief Roy Whitehead. “Together with our public safety and community partners, we’re looking forward to the opportunity to provide information about individual, family, pet and property safety and security as well as the ability to build positive relationships with our community. It will be an evening of fun and sharing with demonstrations, exhibits and opportunities for interaction with more than 35 partners.”
