Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Incorporated’s South Atlantic Region
Chapter Members Receive Regional Appointments in Strides to Serve All Mankind

Lawrenceville, GA – Nestled in the heart of  what is affectionately called Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated’s significant South Atlantic Region (“SAR”), members of the Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter (“UAO”) of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Incorporated have been bestowed regional appointments by South Atlantic Regional Director Sharon Brown Harriott.

The South Atlantic Region (“SAR”) is Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Incorporated‘s largest region and encompasses the states of Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina. Regional appointments are quite an honor. UAO members tapped to serve in SAR roles include:

• Mrs. Kyshia Carey, SAR’s Georgia Protocol Co-Chairman
• Mrs.  Nicola McIntyre, SAR Undergraduate Roundup Leadership Planning Committee Member
 Mrs. Geri Baldwin Gonzalez SAR Sisterly Relations Committee Member

UAO President Karan Rhodes said,“It is such an honor to have even 1 member appointed to serve at a regional or international level. The fact that UAO had 6 members appointed is a true testament of the valued leadership and sought-after talents of the dynamic women in our chapter – all passionate about lifelong service to all mankind!”

Humbled by the opportunity to serve Alpha Kappa Alpha locally and regionally, appointees look forward to offering their sisterly love, time, and talent to the South Atlantic Region. Together, the over 272, 000 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha strive to better the quality of life for all under the sorority’s  new international  programmatic thrust titled  Launching New Dimensions of Service.

About Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter
On January 29, 1994, thirty aspiring professional women chartered the Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The group gathered to implement and support the international programs of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated as they pertain to the needs of Gwinnett County, Georgia. Today, Upsilon Alpha Omega, the first African-American Greek-letter organization in Gwinnett County is over 300 members strong, and has made a significant impact on the community. Karan Rhodes serves as President.
