•US Presidents born in December: Martin Van Buren, eighth president was born on December 5, 1782; Andrew Johnson, 17th president was born on December 29, 1808; Woodrow Wilson, 28th president was born December 28, 1856.
•James Oglethorpe, founder of Georgia was born December 22, 1786.
•The Continental Army camped for the winter at Valley Forge, Pa. beginning on December 19, 1777.
•The News Herald reported on December 21, 1903: “The narrow gauge rail road was leased to Captain J.R. McKelvey.”
•On December 31, 1903 the News Herald reported: “The first 2 days of Christmas were unusually boisterous. The popping of fire crackers kept up a continual roar during the whole 2 days and there were some drunk people.”
•In 1903 the News Herald reported that the population of Lawrenceville was 858. Smith Clayton wrote that land around Lawrenceville leaped upward and some were paying $20 per acre.
•About 7:55 A.M. December 7, 1941 (Hawaii time) the first bombs fell on Pearl Harbor. About 360 Japanese planes attacked Pacific Fleet units at the naval base and army aircraft at Hickam Field and other nearby military installations. The following day President Roosevelt asked Congress for a declaration of war against Japan.

ON THE RED CARPET AT THE WHITE HOUSE
The fashion show and silent auction with the Red Carpet at the White House theme will be held from 4 pm until 7 pm on December 6 in Heritage Hall at Salem Missionary Baptist Church, 4700 Church Street, Lilburn, Ga. 30047. ALMOST CURRENT EVENTS
•Pamela Noonan has been named a Nurse of the Year by the March of Dimes. Pamela Noonan is a Gwinnett Medical center nurse.
•On November 7, 2014 some of the Gwinnett Lipstick Leaders met for lunch in Lawrenceville and after lunch they had a trolley tour of Lawrenceville, sponsored by Lawrenceville Mayor Judy Johnson. Those who took the trolley tour with Mayor Johnson were Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris, Berkley Lake Mayor Lois Jalter, Grayson Mayor Allison Wilkerson, Auburn Mayor Linda Bleekinger and Gwinnett County Commission Chair Charlotte Nash.
•Lawrenceville Mayor Judy Johnson hosted the annual breakfast honoring Lawrenceville Military veterans on Veterans Day, November 11. The breakfast was held at Chew Chew Restaurant.
•Veteran Charles Mitchell enjoyed the Veterans’ Breakfast then went to a local school to speak to students about his military experience.
