Heart of Gwinnett donates $6,000 to Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity
By Celeste Giordano

Hosted by Heart of Gwinnett, the annual Spring Green Festival has been running five years strong. This year, on Saturday March 28, members of the community young and old came out to The Gwinnett County Fairgrounds to join in the festival festivities despite the chilly weather.

The Heart of Gwinnett team and its enthusiastic volunteers were successful in raising over $6000 for its benefit cause, Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity.

As a member of the board of the Heart of Gwinnett, we wanted to take the opportunity to thank the many businesses and individuals who helped make it a success. Without the contributions and support of our valued sponsors, we couldn’t have brought the Spring Green Festival to life. We would like to thank our presenting sponsor, Choices to You, as well as Kona Ice, South East Urgent Care and several others without whom we could not have put together the festival. A special thanks is due to Press Play productions who provided wonderful music and entertainment alongside several local bands.

Complete with tasty treats and entertainment, the Spring Green Festival brings local community businesses and their fares to the forefront. We are grateful to the 85+ vendors who set up shop at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. Featuring hand-made arts and crafts and showcasing local businesses, festival attendees had lots to do and see.

The members of the community who braved the cold to peruse the arts and crafts vendors, check out the Southeast Wheels Car and Motorcycle Show, enjoy the delicious food and support local businesses have our deepest gratitude. Congratulations on coming out to support a worthy and important cause!

Like any successful event, the Spring Green Festival would not have come to fruition without the leadership of our President, D.J. Walkiewicz, and his wife Nicole, as well as our dedicated and industrious Board of Directors, including Sara Poe, Karl Heisman, Jason K. Friedlander, Regina Howe, Vanessa Churco and Celeste Giordano. Each individual’s unique efforts helped make the fifth annual Spring Green Festival a success. Of course, this is also true of the many spirited volunteers who generously gave their time to support the success of the festival and Habitat for Humanity.

Thanks to the support, dedication and hard work of so many, Heart of Gwinnett was successful in raising over $6000 for Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity, whose mission is to ensure everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat for Humanity promotes dignity and hope by supporting community members in need and helping to provide them with affordable housing. Several Heart of Gwinnet board members took time out of their busy weeks to present a check to Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity President, Brentt Bohanan.

The Habitat for Humanity team is constantly searching for reasonably priced land and qualified homeowners in need of affordable housing. On home builds, between 20-25 volunteers gather on 10 to 12 consecutive Saturdays to build these affordable homes. The funds raised at the Spring Green Festival will help enable Habitat for Humanity to continue supporting families in Gwinnett.
