The Long Days of Summer

The Long Days of Summer
By Celeste Giordano

Some business entrepreneurs find themselves falling prey to the lures of summer. Distracted by the sticky heat and endless sweet summer distractions, their business development efforts slow down or come to a complete screeching halt.

With a summer schedule studded with social, networking and business events, members of Heart of Gwinnett – an open business networking community with no fees – don’t take summers off.

True to our mission of creating opportunities for members to learn, network and grow their businesses, we’ve created an event lineup that our members are excited to be a part of, whatever the weather.

One of the most anticipated programs we’ve orchestrated for the summer is our second annual Summer Speaker Series. The series kicked off on June 9th at the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry featuring natural health educator and founder of Advantage Life Balance, Nancy Attrill, flying in from her home in London, Ontario, Nancy enlightened attendees about the many benefits of sleep on your general health as well as on your business. Grayson Coffee House generously sponsored refreshments, and food donations were collected for members of the Ministry in need.

Members of the business community are warmly invited to join us for our upcoming speakers. On July 14th, the highly anticipated author and forgiveness expert Di Riseborough – also a London, Ontario native – will be speaking at About Face in Snellville, GA at 6 p.m. about the 12 faces of fear. Attendees will stay well hydrated thanks to refreshments provided by Cibaria Market in Snellville.

Sharing useful home and office decor and decluttering strategies, home staging pro and Founder of Home Staging Avenue Alice VanderVeen and decluttering expert and Founder of Clutter Angel Shaundra Welch will join us on August 11th at Summit Chase Country Club at 6 p.m. Thanks in advance to Will’s Chicago Style Hot Dogs for graciously sponsoring refreshments at the event.

If you haven’t attended a Heart of Gwinnett event before, this is the perfect opportunity to come out and introduce yourself to the friendly members of your business community. Sponsor tables – available for only $50 – are still available for individuals interested in showcasing their local businesses. Please email contact@heartofgwinnett.com for more information on our speaker series.

If you’re looking for a more active outdoors event, we encourage you to join us at the Summit Chase Country Club on August 31 for our 2nd annual Par For the Cause Golf Tournament. This year’s event will benefit our featured charity, Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity, an important non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for community members in need of safe, decent and affordable housing. We invite you to sign up on your own or as part of a team, and come out swinging for an unbelievable cause. For information on how to register or to learn about sponsorship opportunities, email contact@heartofgwinnet.com.

With July 4th upon us, our nation will come together to celebrate two fundamental, all-American values: independence and freedom. As business entrepreneurs, we are so grateful to live in a country and community where we have the opportunity to freely pursue our professional dreams. When we build local businesses, we strengthen our communities. We encourage you to use your freedom of choice to support local businesses, service providers and the mom and pop shops that give our communities character. When you spend your hard-earned dollars locally, your community prospers and thriving businesses are able to invest in and give back to the communities to whom they owe their success.

On behalf of the Heart of Gwinnett family, I wish you all a wonderful July 4th weekend and a safe and prosperous summer. Take advantage of the exciting local July 4th celebrations that have been organized in our community as well as the wonderful events we have in store for the business community this summer. New faces are always warmly welcomed.
