SPLOST will fund bridge rehabilitation

(Lawrenceville, Ga., July 7, 2015) – Seven roadway bridges in Gwinnett will be rehabilitated to extend their useful lives under a contract approved Tuesday by the Board of Commissioners.

The bridges are on New Hope Road, Westbrook Road, Alpine Drive, Spanish Oak Drive, River Drive, Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and Riverside Parkway.

Acting Transportation Director Alan Chapman explained, “Bridge structures are subject to deterioration over time, through both use and exposure to weather. Rehabilitation of the concrete and steel components of a bridge, including the bridge deck, beams and supporting sub-structure, can extend its useful life, allowing for cost savings compared to a full bridge replacement.”

The County contracted with Proshot Concrete Inc. for a low bid of $347,595. Funding comes from the 2009 SPLOST program.
