Elena Shinohara (Rhythmic Brains, Collins Hill High School, 15 years old) in Suwanee was placed 7th in Junior at the national rhythmic gymnastics competition (USA Gymnastics Championships, Greensboro, NC, June 23-28, http://www.usagymchamps.com), and has become a Junior National Team Member for USA Gymnastics.

She is the only National Team Member in rhythmic gymnastics in Georgia as well as in the southern region (Region 6).  Her coach, Nancy Shinohara in Suwanee, is also the only National Coach in Georgia and southern region. Rhythmic gymnastics is an Olympic sport that is characterized by rhythmic and graceful movement with flexibility while using apparatus (ribbon, hoop, etc).  Elena practices on artistic gymnastics floor at various gyms including Ultimate Gymnastics in Duluth and Gymworks in Suwanee, but will need a place with a rhythmic gymnastics floor and high ceiling to be more competitive.
