For the love of Browny

For the love of Browny

We would like to introduce you to a very friendly, loving and extremely playful Pekingese named Browny.

Browny and his family of 3 moved here from California in 2010.  Browny lives with his owners Gary and Christie Brown and his sister Jantay, who is now in the Navy and has been deployed since March of this year.

browny1190A few months ago Browny’s owners noticed that his left eyelid was starting to droop.  They took him to his normal vet and was told that it could be just a droopy eyelid, since Pekingese dogs have larger eyes than most other dogs.  His owners started to notice that not only was Browny’s eyelid droopy but there was a mass starting to form under his eyeball.  They took Browny to a Veterinarian Ophthalmologist to have his eye further examined.

After meeting with the specialist, Browny’s owners were devasted to find out that Browny had a large Cancerous Tumor around his eye and that Browny would need surgery to remove the tumor and his left eye immediately before the cancer spreads.  As, many may know, medical procedures on a pet can be very costly.  Browny’s owners worried that they may not be able to afford the surgery, so they took to Facebook for help.  A GoFundMe account was created to help defray the cost.  While asking for help from Snellville and Gwinnett County residents, who are member of several Facebook Groups, Browny’s owners were contacted by the owner of American Tavern, located in Loganville GA, and they offered to do a Benefit Dinner to aid in the cost of Browny’s medical care.

The Benefit Dinner will be held at American Tavern on Sunday, Aug 9th starting at 11:30 am until 10:00 pm.  There will be 3 menu items featured for $10.00 a plate, where $5 of every plate will be donated to the cost of Browny’s surgery.  The dishes featured will be: “Fish and Chips”, Salisbury Steak with 2 sides, and, Grilled or Chicken Fried Chicken with 2 sides.  This event is being sponsored by donations from several local businesses like Kenya Photography by Brittany Chappell, Best Name Necklace in Grayson, Chews Delivery Services, Liberty Tax Service (Doris Jones) in Snellville, Debbie Haskins of Waggin’ Tails Pet Care of Snellville, Wreaths by Ashley Small, Pattipoocakes, Tom Livsey of All About Gwinnett Blog Talk Show.  The event will be family and pet friendly.  There will be inflatables for the kids and those wanting to bring their pets on leashes may do so and dine on the patio.

Snellville and surrounding areas have really gotten together and supported Browny and his family through this hard time.  Anyone wanting to make a donation may contact Christie Polk-Brown at 470-299-8379 or go to the GoFundMe page at www.gofundme.com/brownycancersurger.  Please come out on Sunday, Aug 9 to American Tavern 630 Athens Hwy, Loganville, Ga 30052 to help support Browny and his family.  Browny is scheduled for surgery on August 24, 2015. Thank you.
