The Skyland Drive School Safety Improvement Project is included in the Gwinnett County Road Improvement Program and is scheduled to begin construction, Gwinnett County transportation officials said.
This project is funded by the 2014 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax Program and is expected to take approximately six months to complete. Completion time is contingent upon actual weather conditions, utility conflicts encountered, etc., which may shorten or lengthen the project time, officials said.
The project calls for the construction of a new sidewalk on the east side of Skyland Drive from the existing crosswalk at the South Gwinnett High School student parking lot to the existing sidewalk near Highway 78. Curb and gutter and other drainage improvements will also be constructed in conjunction with the project. All work will be accomplished within Gwinnett County and/or state of Georgia right of way or acquired easements.
Officials said contractors will try to preserve anything on neighboring home owners’ property that does not interfere with the proposed construction.
