GCPS Crossing Guard receives honors

A GCPS crossing guard who helped save the lives of some students has received a commendation for his actions. On October 28, Crossing Guard Jeffrey Kenny was in the crosswalk in front of Hopkins Elementary School when he saw a car skidding on the wet pavement toward three children who were in the crosswalk.

Kenny’s quick action ushering the students away from the area prevented the children from getting hurt. He then followed up with the school, parent, and students to ensure that everyone was alright. The school held a surprise event thanking Kenny for his dedication to students. “Your response to this situation is outstanding and reflects great pride on behalf of Gwinnett County Public Schools, Gwinnett School Police, and the Gwinnett Crossing Guard Program. I am proud to be your supervisor and have you as a member of our Crossing Guard Team,” said James P. Haralson, Supervisor, Gwinnett Crossing Guards.
