Volunteers needed for MLK Day event

SNELLVILLE – Mayor Tom Witts asked residents to volunteer in an effort to make the Jan. 18 Martin Luther King Jr. Day event a success Monday.

The new mayor called for all residents to come together as a “United Snellville” to volunteer for the event which will feature the annual parade through the city.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, December 17th, there will be an informational meeting for interested volunteers in the Community Room at City Hall.

Witts told those in attendance at the regular Council Meeting Monday that he hopes to increase attendance at the parade which will take place with the help of New Jerusalem Baptist Church. He said he hopes to assemble a choir with members from all of the city’s churches, a short program outside City Hall before the parade, marching bands and entertainment at the post-parade meal at South Gwinnett High School.

“We are continuing our campaign promise of a United Snellville,” Witts said. “This event will celebrate the diversity of our citizens and the diversity of our community. We all need to be one.”

Residents who can’t attend the meeting Thursday can call Witts directly at 770-891-1612.
