Trickum Middle School awarded thousands to upgrade library

Trickum Middle School received a $4,000 grant from best-selling author James Patterson to upgrade the school’s library. In addition, the Scholastic Reading Club will match each dollar of Patterson’s donation with “bonus points” that teachers can use to acquire books and other materials for their classrooms.

Trickum Middle School was selected for this opportunity from a pool of nearly 28,000 applications for funding grants.

Patterson and the Scholastic Reading Club have made a commitment to help save books and school libraries around the nation, as well as to encourage people to read. This year alone, Patterson personally donated $1.75 million to 467 school libraries nationwide with grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.

Work to create a Superhero room and update the superhero graphic novels at Trickum Middle School is already underway. The school’s media center intends to purchase Spiderman, Batman, Avengers, and Justice League comics. Excitement about the project abounds at the school and has grown with the addition of the new superhero mural painted by local graphic artist Chris Rumble.
