Even if it isn’t freezing cold and you are in need of a wrap, you might need to lie on the ground to extricate a limb from the underside of your car. There should be a bottle of water, a change of clothes and a first aid kit. I also store a bottle of Ensure or a nutrition bar in case I get stuck in a traffic jam. These items need to be checked for freshness on a regular basis so if your birthday is on the tenth of the month, choose to check your car emergency kit on the tenth of every month.
Eastside Medical Center has a Diabetes Support Group that has free meetings held on the fourth Thursday of every month (except November and December) at 7:30pm in the first floor North Tower Classroom. A variety of diabetes related topics are discussed. February’s meeting discussed “Dealing with Diabetes and Staying Positive” and featured Ann Wilder, the Program Director of the Behavioral Health Center. March topic will be healthy eating. Once again the sessions are free and if you have any questions, you can call 770-736-2221.
Don’t forget the Health Screening to be held on March 20 from 8-10 at Eastside Medical Center Classrooms 1 & 2 where you can get Cholesterol, blood sugar, and Lipid Profile at reasonable costs. This is a community service and the public is invited to attend. Test results will be sent to both you and your physician. Free blood pressure screening and stroke assessment will be available on a first come-first serve basis.
I extend my sympathy to the families of Adron Peters, James Burton, Anne Albizer and Camie Hull. Happy Birthday wishes go to Margaret Allen, Linda Bennett, Mary Delaney, Charles Dickerson, and Larry Ingram. Wishes for improving health and pleasant days go to Helen Williams, Anna Roupe, and Beryl Barlow.
If you have not already registered for the trip to the Senior Follies Variety Show at Anderson University on Saturday March 15, you had better call Cathy Stokes at 770-985-6131. It is a variety show put on by very talented seniors. This is my second time to go and I can’t wait. It is a day trip and the cost is on $69 per person and it incudes transportation, tickets and a meal. “Can’t beat that with a stick” as my grandmother used to say.
