We plan to tour the Institute in the morning then take a lunch break and tour The Little White House in the afternoon. Warm Springs is located only about a 2-hour drive southwest of Atlanta. It is the home of:
The Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation (Roosevelt’s Former Polio Hospital) The “Little White House” where Franklin D. Roosevelt lived while president of the US. It is also only about 20 minutes drive from the famous Calloway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA Rotary International Tennis Complex – Center for Therapeutic Recreation, The Ann Henderson Johnson Heritage Center and the Historic Cottage Campaign Home of the Smithsonian National Museum tribute, “ Whatever Happened to Polio”
There are many motels and Bed & Breakfast locations in the area. Whether you can join us for the day or make it a family weekend, please call or contact David Freeman at firstname.lastname@example.org 404-314-4718 for details on this great event. This is an educational opportunity to see, learn and share information with Rotarians, children and family members about the terrible details of this disease and how far we have come in it’s eradication. See first hand the history of this small town and the historical events surrounding its evolution during the last century. Hear about the efforts of Rotarians in District 6900 to restore the historic cottages that make up the Warm Springs National Historic Landmark District and their “Adopt a Cottage” project.
