Back to School 2022: About the Gwinnett County Board of Education and meeting dates…

Gwinnett County Board of Education meetings are set every calendar year in January. The meetings are typically held on the third Thursday of each month in the Board room at the school system’s J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center (ISC), located at 437 Old Peachtree Rd. NW in Suwanee. Each month, the Board of Education’s regular meeting begins at 7 p.m. All meetings, except executive sessions, are open to the public. Gwinnett County citizens are encouraged to attend Board of Education meetings so that they can become better acquainted with the operation and programs of the school system. The remaining meetings for the 2022 calendar year are scheduled for the following dates: August 18, September 15, October 20, November 17, and December 15. Meeting dates for 2023 will be adopted at the January 19, 2023, meeting.

Board welcomes citizen input:

The Board meeting agenda is prepared in advance of each monthly meeting. Anyone wishing to speak before the Board must inform the Superintendent’s Office in writing by 7 p.m. on the Wednesday immediately prior to the Board meeting by filling out a Request Form on the district’s website. If a citizen wishing to address the Board needs interpretation services, they are asked to sign up by Monday the week of the Board meeting so that their request can be accommodated. A maximum of 10 speaker slots will be available each month for the Public Comment on Agenda Items section, with up to 50% reserved for students. In any case where more speakers signed up than the number of speaker slots available, there will be a lottery implemented to select speakers. During this section, constituents can address any item listed on either the Work Session agenda or the Business meeting agenda. Those selected to participate will be notified via a group email the morning of the Board meeting. This request form will be available the Thursday prior to the Board meeting, at the same time as the Work Session agenda and the Business meeting agenda.

A maximum of 20 speaker slots will be available each month for the Public Comment on School Policy or Operations section, with up to 50% reserved for students. In any case where more speakers signed up than the number of speaker slots available, there will be a lottery implemented to select speakers. If an individual needs assistance with the Request Form or has questions, he or she may email MySchoolBoard@gcpsk12.org.

Any Board member, staff member, or citizen may suggest items for the agenda. Each month’s meeting agenda is available online at noon on Monday the week of the Board meeting. In addition, citizens may contact their School Board members, individually or as a group, by e-mail at MySchoolBoard@gcpsk12.org
