Duluth Art Week

Kicks off with Art, Live Performances & Music on Duluth Town Green

Duluth – The City of Duluth’s 8-day art week rocks the ARTS with a kickoff concert for Art Week 2016 with a showcase of different ART mediums.

“There will be lots to see and do; from artists painting on Duluth Town Green to performers hitting the Festival Center Stage” said Event Coordinator, Maggie Waddell.

On May 7th from 11am-5pm, musical acts and performers that guarantee to keep you on your toes are: The Swami Gone Bananas, The Glenn Phillips band, Snoot, and Uncle Don’s band. The Korean Dance Association, Rosinka Folk Dancers, Cindy Brown Dancers and Volga Dance group will also hit the stage.

Separately, Plein Air artists will come together to capture Duluth through paintings and compete for cash rewards totaling $1500.00. Paint Duluth, a Plein Air event, is from May 5th-May 8th, and is also included in ART week. On May 7th, artists will get the chance to express their artistry on Duluth Town Green for a quick draw event from 10am-11am.  Paintings from this will go on display Sunday evening, May 8, at Adrian Collaborative (located on Main Street in the Mathias/Streetsmarts building) from 6:00pm until 7:30pm.

For the rest of the week, beautiful wrapping will adorn poles and trees on Duluth Town Green. Residents will get to keep art pieces found throughout Duluth City limits. The only catch is participants must post a picture with the item on social media. Citizens can also learn about dance, music and more or to take part in the “ART of Food,” by visiting various restaurants on the “Eat Like a Local” list who are offering specials. They can also participate in a geocaching scavenger hunt, digital art classes, and take in the exhibits at the Hudgens Center for the Arts.
