Who owns your domain?

Who owns your domain?
By Stephen Brust

Why should I know who the registrar of my domain is, and why do I keep getting renewal notices from different companies?

I want to address some issues regarding domain name registration.  I have been building websites since 2000 and am still concerned that clients don’t know who owns or who the registrar is for their domain name.

Hold-on –  maybe I should back up for a moment and explain what a domain name actually is.

Important parts of your will

Important parts of your will

I’ve had the opportunity over years of law practice to read a lot of wills that people bring in for probate. It is sometimes surprising what clauses people include in their wills or leave out.

Estate Planning should include End of Life Planning

Nobody relishes the task of making out a will. Squarely addressing the prospect of your own mortality can be upsetting. Sitting down to prepare a Last Will and Testament is not at the top of anyone’s “this is a fun thing to do” list.

The success of any business depends primarily on initiative and hard work. These aspects of business are easier to control than the possibility of losing property to a fire or someone slipping and falling on the premises.

In Georgia, legitimation allows the biological father to be recognized by law as the legal father when a child is born out of wedlock. The biological father may file a petition for legitimation of the child. The superior and juvenile courts have concurrent jurisdiction in legitimation cases. The superior court has general jurisdiction but the juvenile court may become the proper court in certain circumstances.

Your Assets – your plan or someone else’s?

“Just like the state, if you don’t have a plan in writing, the IRA has a plan for you”

If the distribution of your property is important to you, you can use a will or a trust to give instructions about who gets what when you die. If you die without a properly executed estate plan, state law will determine how the probate court will divide and distribute the things you own. Of course, the state of Georgia’s estate plan won’t take your particular wishes into account. So, most people prefer to put their own plan into place.

Protecting those we love and care for

Life insurance may not seem like a romantic gift, but it could be the most precious Valentine’s gift you ever gave a loved one should something unexpected happen. It protects from financial loss in the untimely death of an income earner, caretaker, or even a business owner or key employee. Life insurance can play a critical role in a successful financial strategy.

Estate planning “to-do list”

“For many of us, the task of putting together an estate plan is one of those “to-do’s that never seems to get done.”

It’s that time of year again. Yes, it is New Year’s resolution time. Is estate planning one of your “resolutions” for 2014?

Annulment of marriage

Annulment of marriage
By David Walker, Attorney at Law

We often get questions about annulments, as some people believe they are easier, quicker or less expensive than a divorce. This is usually not the case. Annulments are rarely granted and only in unusual circumstances.
