The Blind Lady – Joan Miller

Window covering safety

Window covering cords has been a controversial subject plaguing the window covering industry for many years. Due to the unfortunate deaths of several young children, manufacturers have been charged with implementing better and safer ways to operate blinds and shades.

Arched windows

When it comes to arched, angled, and odd-shaped windows there is no one simple answer. There are not a wide variety of options for these windows and the products that are available are limited in function and in size.

The sun is powerful in so many ways

The sun affects us in so many ways. It lights up a space in your home and at the same time it can wreak havoc on your beloved possessions such as rugs, artwork, and furniture.

October begins the nationwide Window Cord Safety Effort

This month we are devoting our column to your window covering safety. We are sharing the article from the Window Covering Safety Council website:

The Window Covering Safety Council (WCSC) and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) are urging parents and caregivers during October to check their window coverings for exposed or dangling cords that can pose a strangulation hazard to infants and young children and to retrofit or replace them with today’s safer products.

Motorized convenience

When was the last time you pulled up in front of your garage, got out of your car, manually opened the garage door, got back in your car, drove your car in the garage, and then manually closed it again?

Energy loss

Summer is here with temperatures in the high 90’s and heart beating through our windows, robbing the rooms of precious cool air. Did you know that as much as 50% of our heating & cooling energy is lost through our windows?

The right amount of light

By definition, light is something that makes vision possible. Light can affect your mood and enhance your surroundings; but what can you do in a room where there is too much light?

Make your window treatments the focal point

When it comes to window treatments, they should be a focal point in any room. If you don’t want bare or uninteresting, add a layer over your blinds, shades, or shutters. Layering can be done in a variety of ways.

What’s hot in the world of window treatments?

I like to watch Home Remodeling and Real Estate type TV shows. What I see there reflects the latest in design trends in new construction and remodeling in our area. The minimal look & feel predominates.
