Mock Trial-A view from the courtroom

Mock Trial-A view from the courtroom

Jack Johnston is one of those kids who stays involved, too busy for real trouble. He is involved in church, he auditioned for and secured a bass drum spot on the battery with the Grayson Drumline his freshman year, and he can give a good testimony or argument in a court of law.

From the Bleachers

Driver Training

This month, my view from the bleachers has been concentrated on the last few weeks of driver training for my 15 year old son. While it sounds a little bit scary, the whole experience didn’t turn out to be as bad as I thought it might have been.

This month, I am trading my perch in the bleachers for a virtual seat next to another Grayson Mom who spends a great deal of time observing life “from the bleachers”. “I must confess that I do prefer sharing my perspective from the comfort of a theater seat rather than ‘From the Bleachers’”, says Kristie. I must confess, I am a little jealous…

A tradition of winning

A tradition of winning

Winning is not something that the Grayson Golden Rams go for every Saturday…it’s tradition!  They are the Competition Cheerleaders that represent Grayson High School.  Both JV and Varsity practice everyday after school in the GHS strength center.  On Saturdays, they travel to other high schools and compete in cheerleading competitions.  This season they brought home a total of 8 trophies.  The Golden Rams have always been successful in GHSA AAAAAA.

A tradition of camouflage

A tradition of camouflage

Camouflage is supposed to hide the wearer. In the case of Cathy Harker, Lieutenant Colonel Army Reserve, camouflage did everything except help her to blend in at her child’s school. From my spot on a miniature stool at Grayson Elementary some seven-or-so years ago, I can vividly recall seeing every child’s head turn as Cathy walked into the cafeteria to have lunch with her son, Nick. She had an engaging smile as she graciously acknowledged their not-so-camouflaged curiosity.

Girl’s play hard

Sometimes, my view from the bleachers is helped along a bit by social media or just plain eavesdropping. A posted  photo of the Collins Hill Water Polo Team or a conversation at a marching band exhibition can lead to the best of stories.

Are you ready for the big show?

Are you ready for the big show?
By Beth Volpert

It IS that time again. Time for me to take up my spot on the bleachers where I will watch my oldest one and his friends perfect music for the marching band and my youngest smack some hockey pucks around. From my vantage point, I am privileged to see so much that goes on during the fall season of sports, marching bands and general “back-to-school” life.

Swimming through summer

The view from the bleachers was a wet one this month. Splashing from the pool came in many forms.

Mentoring through the years

As always, my view from the bleachers is a window on the community. This issue, many of the views shared have been from the graduation arena.
