Hometown Snellville – Mandy Snell

Have a wonderful 2015!

Brand new year! Yay!! I hope this finds everyone healthy and happy. The holidays can be an emotional time. When were kids it was all about lights, presents and Santa. It still can be for us young at heart. But we seem to find ourselves, as adults, rushing around and hurrying to get EVERYTHING DONE! And really… ‘the reason for the season’ sometimes gets lost.

I am 50 years old, and it still doesn’t seem real. Not that I haven’t earned every gray hair and/or all the changes that come with age. Because if that is how age is measured, I would be 70 or 75 ! I’m sure most of you probably feel that way too. I find myself remembering back to when my aunt(s) would tell me, “Enjoy being able to do that, cause in a few years it won’t be possible!”

COME ON FALL!!  Yes, I like summer, but I love fall! Always have and always will. Summer is good because you can watch your garden grow, jump into the pool and go fishing until the sun goes down. But fall… well there’s crisp apples, boiled peanuts, the changing of the leaves and you can pull out your jeans and sweat shirts.

Hey everyone… Glad you’re here! Since my last article, I had a incident happen.

My precious yellow lab, Sophie, decided to take a long walk. It was July 4th around 1:00, we got her back home on Saturday afternoon. The reason for me telling you this is: 1) I was a mess for 30 + hours, 2) she has never done this before in her 12 years, and 3) Facebook is awesome when it comes to something like this. I had 60 to 70 friends all commenting and giving me encouragement. 20 or so posting her pictures on their page and sharing it and 5 friends actually got in their cars and drove around. WOW! As if I wasn’t crying enough. I want to thank all of you again, you know who you are.

Count your blessings – That Dash!

Count your blessings – That Dash!

On Memorial Day I went to the cemetery to put a flag on my daddy’s grave, like I do for most holidays. As I was leaving and wiping away tears, I looked down at his foot stone, and it read: Hugh Frederick Snell Sr., US Army World War II, Dec. 1 1922 – Nov. 30, 1997. Purple Heart/Bronze Star Medal. I took a second glance and then I found myself smiling. That ‘dash’ represented his whole life!

I missed y’all last month, sorry I had a lot on my plate. As I sit here writing this, I am also watching my husband sleep. He had an accident earlier this month and now a tough recovery.

Cousins, best friends, good friends

Cousins, best friends, good friends
By Mandy Snell

“As life goes on, they become more and more important to your existence.” The word ‘they’ in this quote is referring to friends, and it couldn’t be more true. We are blessed in our lives with cousins, best friends and good friends. How lucky was I to have had them rolled into one?

I made the comment to a friend the other day, and after I said it, I realized that it truly does apply to me. “ I’m so glad I was aware of how much fun I was having cause I didn’t want to miss anything!”
