The gift of giving

The gift of giving

Aside from the roasted turkeys and broccoli casseroles, the circled gift ideas in the advertisement magazines, the heavy coats and gloves instead of the jackets, and the tacky sweater parties for the folks from the office, the end of the year holds host to enumerable opportunities to serve others.  Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, many times the focus is on decorating the mantle and vacuuming before guests arrive or scouring the mall for the perfect present for that one family member for whom you have no gift ideas.

In an effort to expand the reach of NG3, volunteers are enlisted to “adopt” a team at the  high schools NG3 serves. The role of the volunteer is simple: serve the adopted team on a regular basis through leadership of a weekly character discussion or devotional.  Until this fall, NG3 has unfortunately been able to serve only male sports, but that has changed!

The hallways in high school are full once again with our youth coming and going from one classroom to the next.  Syllabi have been passed out, rolls have been called and fall sports are underway.  NG3 is also underway, working right beside the coaches and pouring into the lives of the student athletes. Much like the upperclassmen excited to build on the foundations they’ve laid in the previous years, NG3 is looking to continue the promotion of character development and spiritual growth.  This year, there is a renewed focus on reaching even more student athletes.

Time well spent in summer

Summertime, for most high school students, means lounging by the pool with friends, trips to the beach or lake, and waking up late.

Experience NG3

Spring is finally here! The flowers are blooming, the clouds of pollen are clearing, and the school year is only a few exams from being completed. Every-thing seems to be a little brighter as the day starts earlier and ends later, and it’s not just the weather that seems to be looking up. NG3 has a number of reasons to be excited; community service projects, an inau-gural banquet, a message confirming the need for NG3, and more doors of opportunity to name a few.

NG3 is making a difference!!

NG3…because Character Changes Communities. That is the motto. That is the foundational belief for everything NG3 is doing on our high school campuses and in the communities we live in. Everyday another student athlete is being mentored, another member of the next generation is being taught the importance of making the right choices and the effect those choices have on those around them, another life is being shaped.

Though the water towers announcing to every driver on I85 that “Gwinnett is Great” were removed years ago, great things are still happening in Gwinnett, and NG3 is one of them. Lives are being changed. Eternity is being affected.

In 2005, Coach Hunter and Coach Crews at Brookwood recognized a void among the football players. This void wasn’t something that could be encompassed in a simple phrase about his team. A lack in leadership or trouble with priorities didn’t encompass what he saw as a hole in the lives of his student athletes.

NG3 Gwinnett!!… Character

NG3 Gwinnett!!… Character!

Character.  In the classroom, high school students learn about dangling participles, centripetal force, the pythagorean theorem, and The Battle of the Little Bighorn.  On the practice field, they are taught how to pick up a blitzing linebacker, when to throw to the cut-off man, how to elongate their stride in the 400, how to defend the pick-and-roll.  Our teachers and coaches have their hands full. At NG3, we work alongside these hard-working men and women to complete the picture for our next generation.
