A vacation to remember

My idea for this month’s article fell right into my lap. Well, actually it fell out of my lap. Over Spring Break, my family and I went on a cruise. It was really fun, in the beginning. Our first stop was Labadee, Haiti, where we hung out at the beach for a while.
Diplomacy
As always, my view from the bleachers can be just about anywhere there is something to spectate. This month is no different as it is time for graduation; for watching that moment that the kids have been working towards for thirteen public school years.
Are you good enough?

Graystone Church
We have a saying at Graystone Church. In fact, this saying is displayed on a huge sign in our lobby. It is the first thing you see you when you walk through the front doors of the church. It says, “We’re not perfect. We don’t expect you to be.”
Finding your voice
This month, the tables were turned on me…suddenly, the places I usually sit, among the crowd, were filled with students who were looking at me instead of me cheering and watching them. The 8th grade language arts teachers at Bay Creek Middle School invited me to speak to their classes on the subject of Finding Your Voice in Writing.

Usually, when I am brainstorming about my articles, I think about things that go on during the month that I am writing about. One of the things that came to my mind this time was my grandpa’s (Pop’s) birthday.

Character development and leadership

Hutson Mason stands in front of the entire UGA football team and is charged with a seemingly remedial task of leading his teammates with jumping jacks. That may seem like a non-issue, but it very well may have been one of the most high pressure situations Mason faced all year.
I understand that change is good and inevitable but who would have thought that the classic 1975 “Land Shark” pose would be nearly extinct 40 years later. Kudos are due to the 2015 Grayson High School Lacrosse Seniors Boys for heading a revival of this concept.
