A sad old story of commerce in peril…

Historian, City of Grayson

The historic story of the Bank of Grayson still continues to be shrouded in mystery and intrigue after all these years; there are many unanswered and sad questions. I learned the story about 37 years ago. In some old family papers, I found two checks, and deposit tickets from the Bank of Grayson.

Welcome to the world of being a SMALL Business Owner

Welcome to the world of being a SMALL Business Owner
Branding, marketing, networking, finances and growth

“Take this job and shove it, I ain’t workin here no more.” We all remember Johnny Paycheck’s #1 hit in 1977 and if you were like me you sang it loud and proud. For whatever reasons there are some of us who just find it difficult to work for large companies or for anyone else other than ourselves. Not to say there is anything wrong with being a 9 to 5 employee as that is a life some want as well. However, those of us who own small businesses know it is not a 9 to 5 job, it’s a passion.

2nd and last month of summer break!

Wow! Just yesterday it felt like I was writing my 1st article for the Gwinnett Citizen and now I’ve already written my second article…in the second and LAST month of summer break! The school year is just weeks away but, before we hit the books lets rewind and see what some of the students at Couch and Bay Creek Middle School did for the Fourth of July.

This summer I feel I have gotten the perfect summer “job”. Four days a week, I volunteer at Sarah Care, an adult day care facility for senior citizens who have Alzheimer’s Disease. I have been volunteering there for a year now. Before summer break, I was only able to work once a week, but it is so much more fun working more often.

Count your blessings – That Dash!

Count your blessings – That Dash!

On Memorial Day I went to the cemetery to put a flag on my daddy’s grave, like I do for most holidays. As I was leaving and wiping away tears, I looked down at his foot stone, and it read: Hugh Frederick Snell Sr., US Army World War II, Dec. 1 1922 – Nov. 30, 1997. Purple Heart/Bronze Star Medal. I took a second glance and then I found myself smiling. That ‘dash’ represented his whole life!

I am trying my best to understand the parameters of Gwinnett County Youth “All Stars”. From what I can tell, the athletes are really, really cute with above their age ability to look intense.
