Bridging the Gap – Cyber-bullying: parents beware!

Too often, a child has the unbearable thought of committing suicide because of bullying.  In previous years bullying typically occurred face to face, but now kids have the capability to bully others from the comfort of their computers and smart phones. Over the years, bullying on social media has grown dramatically.

The story is told of Alfred Nobel that he was reading the newspaper one day and received quite a shock.  Nobel was a Swedish chemist who made millions of dollars from inventing and selling dynamite.  The headline in the 1888 Newspaper read: “The Merchant of Death is Dead;” it was his obituary!  The newspaper, which had confused him with his brother Ludvig who had died in France, described a person who had gotten rich by helping people kill each other.

What a wonderful success the Alzheimer’s Garage sale was.  If you remember it occurred on September 6 -7 at the South Campus meeting room. In those two days, sales of assorted household items together with the splendid lunch on Saturday netted almost $14,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.  This was truly a win-win situation.
