The event couldn’t have gone better.  There were more vendors than ever, record crowds, and Chamber of Commerce weather.  After a 16 hour day, Barbara Brooks, whose committee directed this year’s Lilburn Daze, managed a smile.

End of an era

A good friend of mine recently sent me a funny slide show that targets people of a certain age.  It asked, “Do you remember these things?”, and then showed pictures of things like old ice trays with the pull up handle, rotary telephones, and a Jiffy-Pop popcorn bag ready to explode.  A picture of a big road side produce stand would have fit nicely in that group.  You don’t see many of those any more, and now you’ll see one less.

Kenneth Paryo

Diamond dance

He took classical piano lessons for nine years but, when Kenneth Paryo performs, don’t expect to hear Mozart.

Kenneth Paryo grew up in a musical family.  His mom was worried about him getting hurt in sports so she steered him toward piano keys instead of basketball courts.  Like many young men, Kenneth had other interests as well.  “My parents got me into music,” he said, “but dancing I got into myself.”

Black is beautiful

Black Friday.  What comes to mind: Bargains? Crowds?  Mayhem?  All of the above?  My guess is Black Friday doesn’t conjure up thoughts like “soft” and “cuddly” but, Gwinnett County is changing that.
