GCPL and Norcross High School team up for MakerCamp

Norcross – Coming in June, the Gwinnett County Public Library, in partnership with Norcross High School, will host the first “MakerCamp” for Gwinnett students. MakerCamp introduces students to practical — and fun — hands on learning through the use of computer-aided design software and a MakerBot 3D printer.

Gwinnett County teens raise awareness against underage drinking

Lawrenceville, Ga – The Helping Others Organize Kreative Everyday Differences (HOOKED) Teen Club has planned a 5K and Fun Run event with the goal of bringing attention to underage drinking, encourage peers to thrive and keep adults from providing alcohol to minors. The “Alcohol Free Gets Me …” 5k and Fun Run will be held on April 26 at Tribble Mill Park at 7:30 a.m. during Alcohol Awareness Month, which is also peak prom and graduation season. All proceeds of the race will support the Teen Institute through Gwinnett United In Drug Education (GUIDE, Inc) and the HOOKED Teen Club, the club is currently seeking corporate sponsorship.

Veteran’s driver’s license/ID available for all Georgia Vets

A new enhancement at the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) that allows all military veterans to request a special license or identification card denoting their service was announced by Governor Nathan Deal today. DDS Commissioner Rob Mikell is pleased that the details were included at a special ceremony at the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center in Columbus.

Jail dogs to be featured at Farmers’ Market

SNELLVILLE – People coming to the city’s nationally acclaimed Farmers’ Market may go home with more than a dozen ears of corn and a basket of tomatoes. For the second year, market organizers are teaming up with Operation Second Chance, an organization that places dogs and cats cared for by Gwinnett County Jail inmates with new owners.

Civil War author Stephen Davis to speak at Gwinnett Historical Society

Concurrent with the 150th year anniversary of General Sherman’s bombardment of Atlanta during the Civil War, The Gwinnett Historical Society is pleased to announce that Civil War author Stephen Davis will speak at the Society’s May 19th meeting at the old Historical Courthouse in downtown Lawrenceville.

Local Student Receives Academic Scholarship

(Jefferson, Ga) — Jackson EMC recently awarded graduating Mountain View High School senior Stephen Jenkins a 2014 Walter Harrison Scholarship. The son of Brent and Carol Jenkins of Lawrenceville, Stephen will attend the Georgia Institute of Technology this fall and pursue a degree in electrical engineering.
