Arcado ES celebrates designation as Green Ribbon School

 The Green Team, 4th grade environmental stewards at Gwinnett County’s Arcado Elementary , will host a special visit this week. The visit is due to the U.S. Department of Education recently naming Arcado Elementary as a 2014 National Green Ribbon School.

The National Bonnie Plants Cabbage Program’s GEORGIA State Winner, … Jaidyn Sawyer. She grew a humongous cabbage and was randomly selected by the Georgia Agriculture Department. Jaidyn will receive a $1,000 saving bond towards education from Bonnie Plants. Jaodyn is a student at Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross.

Local student cashes in on Cabbage

Kids across America are growing, and some are earning, a lot of “green” participating in the National Bonnie Plants Cabbage Program. This year, more than 1.5 million third graders in 48 states have gotten hands-on gardening experience growing colossal cabbages with high hopes to win “best in state” and receive a $1,000 scholarship towards education from Bonnie Plants.

Only a few spots remain! The City of Duluth Police Department is proud to announce the scheduling of a Citizen Police Academy. Citizens are invited to attend this free academy, which has been designed to introduce citizen to the various functions of police work. The department is now accepting applications. The thirty-hour course will begin on January 23 and end on May 24, 2014.

The Gwinnett County school counselor who was instrumental in launching the school district’s Elementary School Peer Leadership Conference, has been named the 2014 ASCA National School Counselor of the Year. A representative from the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) traveled to Mason Elementary in the Peachtree Ridge Cluster on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, to surprise school counselor Robin Zorn with the news.

When Suwanee resident Andrea Ide received her master’s in education from Harvard University in 2009, it never occurred to her that she would devote her career to cupcakes. A lover of baking since childhood, Ide moved back to metro Atlanta from Boston with plans to put her Georgia Gwinnett College bachelor’s degree in psychology and Harvard master’s degree to use by teaching psychology to high school or college students.

Lawrenceville – Civil Air Patrol’s Gwinnett Composite Squadron awarded its third quarter of 2013 Cadet of the Quarter award to Cadet Staff Sergeant Thomas Greene. C/SSgt. Greene is a freshmen Bob Jones Home School student in Lawrenceville, GA. He enjoys playing classical piano, guitar and is an avid archery enthusiast. Cadet Green also has had the lead role in a summer theater group for the last several years.
