Celebrate the Caboose During Southeastern Railway Museum’s Caboose Days

DULUTH — The Southeastern Railway Museum will celebrate cabooses, the crews that called them home and their role on the railroad during April’s Caboose Days.

The museum will host the family-friendly two-day event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, and Sunday, April 8, greatly expanding the event from previous years.

Commissioners Approve Legacy Project to Commemorate Bicentennial, Celebrate Future

Lawrenceville – Gwinnett County will demolish its old Fire Station 15 at 275 South Perry Street in Lawrenceville and build a Bicentennial Plaza in its place. The project will also upgrade an existing walkway and trail along Constitution Boulevard to create the Bicentennial Trail, which will connect the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, the Bicentennial Plaza and the Lawrenceville Lawn.

Director of Foreign Languages wins regional leadership honor

Gwinnett County Public Schools’ (GCPS) Director of Foreign Language Dr. Jon Valentine is this year’s winner of the 2018 SCOLT (Southern Conference on Language Teaching) Leadership Award. The award is presented to K-12 educators who have demonstrated excellence in language teaching through service to the school, community, active participation in SCOLT, and leadership and advocacy at the local, state, and/or regional or national level.

Meadowcreek High students and teacher earn statewide honor

A team of Meadowcreek High School students and their teacher earned top honors in the 2018 Hospitality Foundation of Georgia (HEFG) ProStart State Championship. Wayne Miles, Carlos Barboza, Jorge Narvaez, Jose Martinez and Arturo Perez won the Culinary Arts state title. The team’s teacher, Chef Simone Byron, won the 2018 ProStart Teacher of the Year award.
