SPLOST park and trail funding

SNELLVILLE – The city council approved a measure Monday, which will help pay for the bulk of the new Oak Road Park and the proposed Towne Center Multi-Use Trail.

The city will use a maximum of $1 million in County Special Local Option Sales Tax funds to pay for a majority of the costs of the two projects. Oak Road Park had a price tag of $400,000 while the trail system is expected to cost $1.25 million.

Elections hosts poll official hiring events

Lawrenceville – Citizens looking for ways to get involved in the electoral process and give back to the community are invited to Gwinnett County’s upcoming poll official hiring events on Feb. 21 in Norcross and Feb. 24 in Snellville.

The Voter Registrations and Elections Division is looking for citizens of all backgrounds, but has an urgent need for bilingual poll workers, particularly Spanish speakers.

Registration Now Open for Major Annual Fundraising Event to Benefit Georgia Nonprofit Dedicated to Breaking the Cycles of Homelessness, Poverty and Domestic Violence

Duluth – Metro Atlanta-based Rainbow Village is encouraging local golfers to begin practicing their golf swings. Registration is now open for the 2018 Rainbow Village Golf Classic – one of the largest fundraisers the nonprofit organization hosts each year.

Norcross native serves aboard Navy warship in San Diego 

SAN DIEGO – A Norcross, Georgia, native and 2014 Norcross High School graduate is serving in the U.S. Navy aboard USS Russell.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Imani Deloatch is an operations specialist aboard the guided-missile destroyer operating out of San Diego.

A Navy operations specialist is responsible for monitoring radar and detecting aircraft or small boats in the vicinity of the ship.

What happens when you ring the doorbell of someone you have never met and introduce yourself? That’s exactly how long-time Snellville resident and City Councilmember, Dave Emanuel met his wife, Kathy, in 1975. Dave, a Southern California resident at that time, owned an advertising and public relations company. During a business trip to Chicago, Dave decided to take a weekend jaunt to visit friends in Boonville, Missouri.

A Chance Encounter

Russell and Sue Winter’s relationship first began during Spring Break, 1971 in Daytona Beach, Florida. Both students, unfamiliar with the other, attended Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. Sue and her Delta Zeta sorority sisters and Russell and his Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity brothers hopped into their respective cars and headed for the beach that March.
