NORFOLK, Va. – Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew Tompkins, a 2004 Shiloh High School graduate from Snellville, Ga., is serving on one of the world’s most advanced warships, the U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer USS Cole (DDG 67).

It never ceases to amaze just how many dynamic and self-sufficient personalities have come from the South Gwinnett Alumni. “Big Daddy” Todd Lawson is no exception. Always one of the guys who might be called “big man on campus”, Todd’s presence is hard to miss. From appearances, “Big Daddy” might conjure up thoughts of a southern gothic character, but according to his three daughters, he is kind of a gentle giant. A gentle giant who makes some very tasty barbeque.

SNELLVILLE – Things sure have changed since the city’s Farmer’s Market opened for the first time five years ago.

Then, there were just over 30 vendors. When the market opens its 2014 season June 7, there will be 55.

Grayson HS is known for football.  But this year was the first year that GHS’  boys Varsity Lacrosse made it to the 6-A State playoffs!   We also had 3 Varsity players to sign for College Lacrosse: Chris Briner, MVP, and Darius Thompson, All County Defensive, both signed to play the inaugural season at Columbus State University.  Head Coach Brendan Bonacum moved down from New York to start the program, Chris will be the starting Goal Tender and Darius will be one of the starting Defensemen. Roman Brown signed with Huntington University in Alabama and Varsity player Sharp Reineryson also made All County Offense. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the South East, and Grayson High School is getting recognized, look out Football!!!
