Northwest Georgia’s favorite family fall event returns Oct. 13-14 for the seventh annual Wings Over North Georgia Air Show presented by JLC AirShow Management. Headlining the 2018 weekend of flying action are the U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor and A-10 Thunderbolt II Demonstration Teams. The show will once again take place at the Russell Regional Airport in Rome, GA.

the team collected donations for a local charity, the Norcross Co-Op.

Community service is embedded in the Ashworth College commitment to helping others succeed. Besides assisting students with their studies and helping them navigate to graduation, the Ashworth College Student Services department routinely contributes to causes that create a better life for needy families.

These are just a few of the questions posed by 19 high school students visiting the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office as a part of the Gwinnett County State Court S.M.I.L.E. Program. While the students didn’t see any bodies, Dr. Carol Terry, Gwinnett County’s Chief Medical Examiner, along with Investigator Eddie Reeves, gave personal accounts of their death investigations and use of forensic pathology at Gwinnett County’s morgue. This is just one of the many opportunities that S.M.I.L.E. Gwinnett participants will experience this summer.

Gwinnett Animal Shelter: A welcoming place to find a furry friend

 This month I’m pleased to report that the Gwinnett Animal Shelter continues to transform. Management of the facility moved from the police department to community services in April 2017. The staff is now led by Alan Davis and two deputy directors, Vern Sawyer and Chandler Giddes. The news below is from an update they presented to the Board of Commissioners recently.

In two short weeks, Georgia’s largest school system, Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS), kicks off a new school year welcoming more than 180,000 students.
