Beginning this summer, participants at Snellville’s SarahCare, adult day care center will be experiencing activities under new leadership. This new leadership will continue to provide the same loving care the participants are accustomed to, but it will be offered by current employees who have been promoted to new positions within the organization.
On May 30, 2018, Jan Snell Houston, friends and family joined together to participate in the first Adopt a Road for Harris Houston Memorial Clean up. Wisteria Drive was selected by his mother Jan because her Daddy, Hugh, grew up at his parents, Gladstone and Clemmie Snell, family home place facing 78 and backing up to the cemetery and what became Wisteria Drive.
Coach Rolando Ruiz leads the GGC Raiders, playing out of Georgia Gwinnett College, to their third ALTA Atlanta City Championship.
A team of students from Maxwell High School of Technology earned full scholarships after winning a chef competition. The team took home 1st place at the inaugural USDA Southeast Regional Junior Chef Competition at Sullivan University in Kentucky.
Paddle Georgia on the Yellow and Ocmulgee Rivers
James Crawford and Ray Mitchell of Lawrenceville, GA will be among the more than 275 people participating in Georgia River Network’s (GRN) Paddle Georgia 2018 set for June 16-22 on the Yellow and Ocmulgee rivers.
DULUTH – The Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia recently awarded 27 grants to area nonprofits at their annual grant awards celebration. Held on June 7th at The 1818 Club, the event was one of the highlights of the year for the Community Foundation. Twenty-seven grants were awarded, totaling almost $250,000! Including nonprofits who received challenge grants, the total impact being funneled into area nonprofits is $500,000.
Buford — In celebration of Gwinnett County’s Bicentennial, the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center (GEHC) and the Georgia Nature Photographers Association (GNPA) are hosting an amateur photography exhibit spotlighting local nature scenes with historical significance. The exhibit, featuring more than 90 works by amateur and student photographers, will be on display until Aug. 11 at GEHC located at 2020 Clean Water Drive in Buford.
In the midst of Gwinnett’s Bicentennial Celebration, I am very grateful for the work of the pioneers and all those leaders to follow who built the foundations for today’s Gwinnett County. I also feel very appreciative that some tangible evidence of what life was like here more than a century ago has been preserved.
