Ah, the things that come with age, yes? I love the wisdom and clarity; the ability to discern; the sure knowledge of what I want; the satisfaction of having raised, or nearly raised, our children; the sheer joy of having a grandchild. The list goes on and on.

We have to know when to quit

One of the best decisions I ever made, for both myself and for my family, was to just bite the bullet and leave corporate America for unchartered territory. It’s hard to explain my motivation for doing so; I just knew that it was time for me to help my husband start his business and to be home for our children during their middle school years.
There are days when my patience is stretched to (and past) its limits. Let me just say at the outset that it’s my fault. It has to be. My husband is a great guy – sweet, kind, generous, thoughtful and very much a man’s man.
My parents, it turns out, were not nearly as stupid as I thought they were when I was a teenager. I suspect that a lot of us learned that lesson when we were growing up, and we learned it right about the same time that we moved out on our own, started paying our own bills and such.

Timing is everything

It’s cold outside. The cold weather took a while to arrive, but when it did, it surely did. I love it. Oh, I hear people complaining about the temperatures, but for Pete’s sake, it’s January.
Ah, football. Is there a sport anywhere on earth that stirs such passion, such emotion? Well soccer maybe, but to a diehard football fan, soccer’s a distant second.

It’s been said that our children will make us the saddest and the happiest we will ever be in life, and I believe that to be true. No, I know it to be true. My husband and I have experienced both the happiness and the sadness with our children, who range in ages from 23 – 30.
